As I dig my way out of my inbox, I was surprised/honored/excited to find an email from Ingrid Getzen of Room 214 PR (representing The Travel Channel). She gave me a great pitch about the new season of Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations,” which included a link to embed the preview for the Mexico episode (embedded below).
Four things:
1. I love this show and watch it frequently with Jesse.
2. As someone “in the biz,” I am impressed with the Digital PR efforts of the Travel Channel.
3. I am not sure how I made it on the press list (maybe my trips abroad?), but I am appreciative nevertheless.
4. The Travel Channel is using Viddler for their video. That’s hot. UPDATE: Why is it hot? Because (a) Gary Vaynerchuk (@GaryVee) made it famous by using it for Wine Library TV, (b) you can in-line comment and (c) the interface is beautiful.
From the release: “Anthony heads to Mexico with Carlos, who took over his old position of head chef at Les Halles in New York City. While in Mexico, Tony is treated to “the best tortillas ever,” along with food from a quaint cantina in Mexico. He explores the local culture by visiting a Lucha Libre training center, and travels down the river as the Aztecs used to and happens upon quite a creepy scene. The episode also includes Tony drinking some suspicious-looking fermented cactus sap and feasting on a homemade meal from Carlos’s family in Puebla.”

No Reservations filmed an episode in DC last summer, airing January 19 on the Travel Chanel. (For those with Comcast’s “On Demand” service, it’s available now.) I watched it the other night and was impressed. They hit some of the obligatory DC spots (Ben’s Chili Bowl, MiniBar @ Cafe Atlatico) but Bourdain also visits some of cool, out of the way places: Banh Mi at the Eden Center, Peruvian chicken at El Pollo Rico, and blue crab at the Maine Avenue Fish market.
All in all, it was really well done.
1) Room 214 is a Boulder company. (Yay Boulder!)
2) Anthony Bourdain rocks. I like the other show with Andrew Zimmern as well.
3) Viddler also rocks because you can have viddler results (and thumbnails) show up in your Lijit search results (also a Boulder company. Yay Boulder!)
4) You rock, which is why they must have added you…
Leslie,
You do rock! Thanks for the compliments!
Ingrid
